Earthbeat is an installation about balancing water consumption: visitors are asked to find the right balance between an hypothesized plants’ heartbeat and the specific water that each of them need; when the balance is correct, the heartbeat becomes audible.
Each plant exhibited belongs to a different climatic area: from wet to dry, so that each plant has a different need of water. The plant’s water need is symbolized by a blinking light that holds a specific rhythm, different from plant to plant. The installation focuses on the idea of a natural balance in the vital use of the water resource, and on the fact that we should actively align our actions to that natural balance.
